What you don't know but need to know: A recap of the Yahoo! Canada Search
Day
Six exciting speakers, one day, and countless tidbits of Search
Engine Marketing wisdom officially marks my first event as an IIMA volunteer
student event blogger. The 8 hour long Yahoo! Canada Search Day on March 12th
not only opened my eyes on importance of SEO, but also provided practical,
real-life tips that we can implement on our Internet campaign.
Did you
know that ..
...93% of online users use search engines to find
websites?
...99% of users do not look beyond the Top 30 results?
...Top 10
positions of search engine results receive 78% more web traffic than the
rest?
Perhaps not (and believe me, I had no idea either before this
event!) but after the day I began to realize that expanding your marketing
efforts online is not longer just an extension of your overall advertising
strategy to reach a wider audience - it has grown to becoming the new trusted
source of sales and often, a first impression of a company. Where was the first
place you looked after receiving a business card, skimming a magazine ad, or
reading about a new restaurant in the local daily?
For many of us, that
first place that we'd look would be the company's website. We might be
searching for information ranging from a full extensive product catalouge to
something as simple as a contact bio or phone number. With 79% of Canadian
consumer using these info to research potential purchases (both online AND
offline), it is vital that you (or your company) has a credible, reliable, and
high quality website.
I won't go into the specifics of HOW to on here,
for that should really be a whole website on its own.. but to go over some of
the key research and hot tips from our dynamic speakers, check out their
