What is CIMBS

CIMBS is the professional designation accorded to qualified Internet marketing and e-business strategists. Accreditation is earned by meeting the requirements of experience and/or education as determined by the CIMBS Committee, combined with a passing grade of at least 75% on the C.I.M.B.S. exam. A CIMBS designation certifies that you possess the business and marketing ability required for senior Internet marketing and Internet marketing management positions.

Requirements

To qualify for accreditation of the CIMBS designation you must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete the CIMBS exam, with a passing grade of at least 75%.
  • Possess at least one year of management experience
  • Submit at least two industry references verifying your expertise and experience.
  • PLUS qualify for a minimum of 12 experience points, based on the self evaluation form below.
Experience Points Maximum
Education - points awarded for completion of post-secondary education in business, marketing or Internet marketing program. 6 pts. 6 pts.
Internet Marketing - points awarded for direct work experience in an internet marketing role 3 pts/year 12 pts.
Traditional Marketing - points awarded for direct work experience in a traditional marketing role 2 pts/year 12 pts.
Internet Related - points awarded for direct work experience in an Internet related role that does not have a marketing focus. 2 pts/year 12 pts.

Maintaining Your CIMBS Designation

You are required to renew your CIMBS designation every three years by successfully completing a CIMBS renewal exam with a minimum grade of 75%. The CIMBS renewal exam will test current industry knowledge, verifiying that you have maintained a minimum level of professional development. You will be emailed a reminder to renew your CIMBS at least three months in advance of it's expiration.

As a CIMBS designate, you will be included in the IIMA's online directory of accredited professionals as long as you maintain membership in good standing with the IIMA.

How to Apply

Once you are certain you qualify for your CIMBS designation, applying is easy.

  1. Complete the online application form and pay the application fee of $195 (IIMA members) or $340 (non-member).
  2. Submit any requested supporting documentation by email or regular mail.
  3. Take the CIMBS exam and achieve a passing grade of at least 75%. (Should you fail to achieve 75% on your first attempt, you will have the option to re-take the exam within 60 days on payment of a $75 exam fee.)
  4. You will be emailed verification of your certification and your CIMBS certificate will be sent to you via regular mail.
